Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said Friday that the relocation to the new Senate building in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City could be completed by the middle or third quarter of 2027.
“Ang sabi ni Senator Lacson, towards the middle or third quarter of 2027, tapos. Lilipat kami,” Sotto said in a Zoom interview, referring to Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, chairman of the Senate Committee on Accounts.
Sotto noted that under Lacson’s supervision, the cost of the new building will be lower than earlier projections.
“Una kasi sabi nila magiging ₱23 billion raw nung panahon ni Senator [Nancy] Binay… Pero pagdating nung si Senator [Alan] Cayetano na ang Accounts ₱31 billion naman ang projection. Eh ngayon, si Senator Lacson na ulit ang may hawak… Bababa ‘yan,” he said.
The new Senate headquarters was originally envisioned as a permanent, modern facility and scheduled for completion in 2021, but construction faced delays due to budget scrutiny and shifting leadership priorities.
For now, the Senate continues to occupy rented space at the GSIS complex in Pasay City, which lawmakers have long considered outdated.
