SENATE PANEL REFINES REPORT ON FLOOD CONTROL ANOMALIES

The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee has started fine-tuning its draft report on alleged flood control anomalies, consulting key government agencies to determine whether existing evidence can support its conclusions.

Senator Erwin Tulfo said the committee met with the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), and the Office of the Ombudsman after the hearings to align perspectives and clarify the direction of the report.

The meeting was attended by Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, committee chair and Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, and Senators Sherwin Gatchalian, Loren Legarda, and Raffy Tulfo.

Tulfo stressed the importance of ensuring that any potential cases are solid and defensible, warning against filing weak complaints.

“Sayang kung hindi naman airtight… We’ll be wasting our time, the effort of the DOJ, Ombudsman, the Blue Ribbon, pati ang mga taong madadamay,” he said.

He clarified that the agencies did not provide firm commitments during the discussion, as talks focused on sharing insights and the status of possible case build-ups.

Tulfo also noted that senators had varying reactions to the draft report, with some expressing reservations while others took stronger positions.

The senator added that there is still no definite timeline for elevating the report to the Senate plenary due to a packed legislative calendar, but assured that it will eventually be presented on the floor.
