Senator Migz Zubiri has called on several high-profile celebrities to reconsider their involvement in endorsing online gambling platforms, stressing the potential harm such promotions may bring to the Filipino public—especially the youth.
In a media interview on Monday, July 7, Zubiri appealed directly to artists who serve as brand ambassadors for well-known gambling sites to pull out of such endorsements.
“Umaapela kami sa mga sikat na celebrities, don’t use your position to encourage more online gambling. Baka pwede na kayong mag-pull out mismo,” said the senator.
He added, “Alam kong malaki ang bayad sa inyo pero pag-isipan n’yo naman ang nangyayari sa mga kabataan.”
Among the celebrities currently endorsing online gambling sites are some of the country’s biggest stars, including Kim Chiu, Alden Richards, Nadine Lustre, Vice Ganda, and Vic Sotto.
The senator recently filed the “Anti-Online Gambling Act of 2025,” which aims to ban all forms of online gambling in the Philippines.
The move follows the Marcos administration’s crackdown on offshore gaming operations (POGOs), which have faced widespread criticism due to security, corruption, and social issues.
Zubiri emphasized the need to act now, citing the growing addiction among Filipinos and the financial and emotional toll online gambling inflicts on families.
