SENATORS, BONOAN TAGGED IN ALLEGED DPWH PAYOFFS

Former Public Works Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo on Friday linked several lawmakers—including Senator Jinggoy Estrada, former Senator Grace Poe, and former Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan—to alleged multimillion-peso kickbacks from Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) projects.

At the Senate blue ribbon committee hearing, Bernardo reiterated that he facilitated transactions and personally routed kickbacks for Senator Chiz Escudero, former Senator and Makati Mayor Nancy Binay, and former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., amounting to hundreds of millions of pesos.

In his prepared affidavit, he claimed that a private contractor identified as “Mrs. Patron” collected 20% in bribe money for Poe, who once led the Senate finance panel. Bernardo also alleged that Estrada received as much as 25% in kickbacks from at least ₱1.95 billion worth of DPWH projects.

“I am committed to disclose everything that I know regarding these anomalies,” he told the committee chaired by Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson.
