Former DPWH Secretary Rogelio “Babes” Singson has resigned from the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), saying the ongoing flood control probe has affected his health and personal security.
ICI chairperson retired Justice Andres Reyes Jr. confirmed the resignation on December 3, noting it will take effect on December 15, possibly extending to December 31 while awaiting President Bongbong Marcos’ approval.
Reyes said the 77-year-old Singson stepped down “because he’s not used to this kind of life,” adding that “the very intense and stressful ICI work has taken a toll on his aging body.”
The ICI expects to continue its work despite losing a commissioner.
“We can continue investigative work on table basis, not hearing basis,” Reyes said.
Singson is the second member of the panel to leave since its creation in September. Baguio City Mayor Benjie Magalong earlier resigned as special adviser and was replaced by former PNP chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr.
Before joining the commission, Singson said in an August interview that he received “feelers” from President Marcos to lead the DPWH amid the corruption scandal. He was later named to the three-member panel.
Singson previously headed the DPWH during the Aquino administration.
