SM PRIME INVESTS ₱6B TO REDEVELOP HARRISON PLAZA IN MANILA

SM Prime Holdings Inc. is investing over ₱6 billion to redevelop the former Harrison Plaza Complex in Manila, with the new SM Harrison Plaza slated to open next year.

The redevelopment is part of SM Prime’s ₱150-billion mall investment program for 2026–2030, covering the renovation of 16 existing malls and the construction of 12–15 new lifestyle centers nationwide.

Originally opened in 1976 as the country’s first modern one-stop shopping destination, Harrison Plaza ceased operations in December 2019 and was demolished in late 2021.

The new mall will boast a gross floor area of over 200,000 square meters, on par with flagship developments like SM City Davao and SM City Clark.

SM Supermalls President Steven Tan said the redevelopment will emphasize community and cultural integration.

“The development will incorporate nature-inspired architectural elements alongside open layouts, community spaces and green areas designed to support cultural and social activities,” Tan explained.

Envisioned as a mixed-use retail and lifestyle hub, the mall will serve office workers, residents, and students in Malate and Ermita. Its proximity to Manila Zoo, Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, Cultural Center of the Philippines, and Manila Bay is expected to attract both local and foreign tourists.

Tan added that the project will strengthen SM Prime’s presence in Manila’s cultural and entertainment district, complementing its nationwide mall portfolio.
