Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III once again highlighted on social media that he has fulfilled his campaign promise from the 2025 elections—to donate his salary as a lawmaker to fund scholarships for Filipino students.
In a Facebook post, the veteran legislator announced that 40 students nationwide are now beneficiaries of his office’s scholarship program.
“Mga bagong scholars! Mula nang manungkulan noong Hunyo, nakapagbigay na ng suporta mula sa sariling sweldo ni Senate President Vicente ‘Tito’ Sotto III ang kanyang tanggapan sa 40 iskolar,” Sotto said in his post.
He added that 52 more applicants are currently undergoing screening to qualify for the next batch of scholars.
“Kasalukuyang nagsasagawa ng screening para sa libu-libong aplikante mula sa 52 lalawigan sa buong bansa,” he added.
According to the Constitution, senators receive a monthly basic salary of ₱293,191, while the Senate President is entitled to ₱347,888 per month. It is unclear, however, if Sotto continues to personally accept the full amount.
During the 2025 midterm elections, Sotto pledged in his campaign and television advertisements that he would forgo his salary as a senator and instead allocate it to support his office’s scholarship initiative.
