SOTTO RESHUFFLES SENATE COMMITTEES; DUTERTE ALLIES STRIPPED OF COMMITTEE POSTS

Following the change in Senate leadership, several senators allied with former President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Sara Duterte have been stripped of their committee chairmanships and relegated to the newly formed minority bloc.

With the approval of Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, key Senate committees were reassigned to members of the majority. The changes are as follows:

  • Senate President Pro Tempore Ping Lacson – Committee on Accountability, Public Officers and Investigations (from Senate Deputy Minority Leader Rodante Marcoleta)
  • Senate Deputy Majority Leader Risa Hontiveros – Committee on Health (from Senator Bong Go)
  • Senate Deputy Majority Leader JV Ejercito – Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs (from Senator Bato dela Rosa)
  • Senator Loren Legarda – Committee on Higher, Technical and Vocational Education (from Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano); Committee on National Defense (from Senator Jinggoy Estrada); Committee on Accounts (from Cayetano)
  • Senator Raffy Tulfo – Committee on Labor (from Senator Imee Marcos)
  • Senator Kiko Pangilinan – Committee on Human Rights (from Cayetano)
  • Senator Camille Villar – Committee on Economic Affairs (from Senate Majority Leader Migz Zubiri, who now chairs the Committee on Rules)

Meanwhile, the minority bloc confirmed Senator Alan Peter Cayetano as Senate Minority Leader and Senator Rodante Marcoleta as Senate Deputy Minority Leader.

Senator Jinggoy Estrada revealed that the new minority now counts nine members — the largest minority bloc in the history of the Senate.
