House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III has expressed support for a proposal to establish a national minimum wage that would eliminate wage differences across regions.
Dy made the statement after meeting with leaders of various labor groups on February 24.
“I fought for higher wages during my time as Governor of Isabela,” Dy said. “We owe our workers a fair and unified wage system, and the House will act on this.”
He ordered the immediate consolidation of the measure that would abolish the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPB) so it can be included in the plenary agenda next week.
The House Committee on Labor and Employment, chaired by Cavite 1st District Representative Jolo Revilla, is currently conducting hearings on the proposal.
Under the plan, wage increases in the regions will be implemented gradually until they reach the level set in the National Capital Region.
