THREE WEATHER SYSTEMS TO AFFECT PH ON NEW YEAR’S DAY

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said three weather systems will bring cloudy skies and rain over parts of the country on the first day of 2026.

In its 4 a.m. advisory, PAGASA reported that Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and Quezon will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line, with risks of flash floods or landslides from moderate to heavy rains.

Mindanao and the rest of Visayas will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by easterlies, while the northeast monsoon (amihan) will bring light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, with no significant impact expected.

Strong to gale-force winds will prevail over Extreme Northern Luzon, producing rough to very rough seas reaching up to 4.5 meters.

The rest of Northern Luzon will have moderate to strong winds, while other areas will see light to moderate winds and coastal waters.

On Wednesday, Quezon City temperatures ranged from 23.2°C at dawn to 29.2°C late morning, with humidity peaking at 91%. Manila Bay tides recorded a low of –0.39 m at 6:42 a.m. and a high of 1.25 m at 10:30 p.m.

Sunrise in Metro Manila was at 6:21 a.m., with sunset at 5:38 p.m. and lunar illumination at 95%.
