TINIO: NO PUSH YET FOR ONE-THIRD SIGNATURES TO FAST-TRACK VP SARA IMPEACHMENT

ACT Teachers Party-list Representative Antonio Tinio on Monday said he does not sense any effort in the House of Representatives to gather signatures from at least one-third of its members to fast-track the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.

“Wala naman akong nasi-sense na effort na magpapirma ng one-third. As far as I know daraan ito sa Justice committee,” Tinio said in an interview.

He expects the Office of the Speaker to include the impeachment complaints against Duterte in the Order of Business on Wednesday, with referral to the House Committee on Justice.

The Supreme Court previously declared unconstitutional the impeachment complaint filed against Duterte in 2025. Tinio said it would be better to move forward with trial proceedings to settle the issue once and for all.

“So better pa rin kung fact track na tayo para doon na tayo sa trial at ma-settle na once na for all itong usapin ng pag-abuso sa confidential funds ni Vice President Duterte,” he said.

He added that if the case goes through the Justice committee, it would refresh public memory on the confidential fund controversy.

“Mas mabuti na rin na masariwang muli sa lahat kung bakit talagang matibay ang batayan sa pag-impeach sa Vice President,” Tinio noted.

The Makabayan bloc and a coalition of civil society groups filed an impeachment complaint against Duterte on February 2, while a group of clergy and lawyers filed a third complaint on February 9.

Tinio said there is no schedule yet for discussions among lawmakers on the best stance to take regarding the impeachment processing.
