Senator Erwin Tulfo said he was not surprised by the quo warranto petition filed against him by disbarred lawyer Berteni Cataluña Causing before the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET), saying similar disqualification cases had been filed and dismissed in the past.
In a statement released on Monday, October 27, Tulfo said he was already aware of the pending case and is prepared to face it.
“Aware naman na po tayo na may nakabinbin na ganito sa SET at handa po tayong harapin ito,” he said.
Tulfo recalled that the same individual had repeatedly filed disqualification cases against him during the election campaign period, all of which were dismissed.
Despite the new petition, Tulfo said he remains focused on his duties as a senator.
During a budget hearing for the SET, SET Deputy Secretary Eleanor Francisco-Anunciacion confirmed that a quo warranto petition was filed on July 15, 2025, concerning an issue of citizenship. While she did not name the senator involved, a slide presentation identified Causing’s petition against Tulfo.
The case remains pending before the SET and is currently under preliminary review in accordance with the tribunal’s rules and procedures.
