Senator Erwin Tulfo on Sunday urged government agencies and private companies to revive work-from-home arrangements to help employees cope with rising fuel costs.
Tulfo noted that with pump prices continuing to increase, workers whose jobs do not require physical presence should be allowed to perform their duties remotely.
“If a worker’s physical presence or activity is not required at the workplace, why not just have them report online?” Tulfo said in a statement.
He cited office-based roles as examples.
“For instance, those in office roles like planning, research, admin, customer service, and other similar jobs can work from home,” he added.
The senator pointed to the pandemic as proof that remote work can be effectively sustained across various sectors, including education and healthcare.
“Even medical consultations and check-ups were done online by doctors during the pandemic. Why not do it again now?” he asked.
For employees who still need to report onsite, Tulfo suggested cost-saving measures such as carpooling and ride-hailing options to help reduce expenses.
“With these steps that we have tried before, workers will be able to save,” he said.
