TULFO VOWS TO STEP DOWN, URGES RELATIVES TO QUIT IF DYNASTY BAN PASSES

Senator Erwin Tulfo said he is prepared to resign once President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. signs into law the proposed measure against political dynasties.

In an interview with ABS-CBN award-winning journalist Karen Davila, Tulfo was asked about the rapid rise of his family in politics.

“Well actually plano ko lang dyan Ms. Karen pag naipasa itong bill na ‘to (anti-political dynasty), I was one of the sponsors and I filed it with Sen. (Ping) Lacson na pag naaprubahan ito, I’ll step down,” Tulfo said.

The neophyte senator added: “I’ll even tell my relatives, my sister-in-law Jocelyn, my nephew Ralph, let’s all step down, let’s leave (it to) Raffy kasi siya nauna dyan, let’s all step down.”

Tulfo stressed that he wants to see an enabling law passed to finally put an end to political dynasties in the Philippines.

“Gusto ko maipasa yun eh, para matigil na ‘tong lahat,” he said.

Currently, four members of the Tulfo family hold government positions:

  • Senator Erwin Tulfo
  • Senator Raffy Tulfo
  • ACT-CIS Rep. Jocelyn Tulfo, wife of Senator Raffy and sister-in-law of Senator Erwin
  • Quezon City 2nd District Rep. Ralph Tulfo, son of Senator Raffy and nephew of Senator Erwin

Two other members of the family have also tried but failed to secure elected posts. Veteran journalist Ben Tulfo ran for senator in the 2025 midterm elections but failed to make it to the “Magic 12,” while their sister, former Tourism Secretary Wanda Tulfo-Teo, was unsuccessful in her bid to become a party-list representative.

Some political analysts have noted that the “Tulfo” name has quickly become one of the fastest-rising political dynasties in the country, with projections that the family could gain even more ground in 2028—especially with Senator Raffy Tulfo emerging as a potential presidential contender.
