The death toll from Typhoon Tino has climbed to 66, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Wednesday.
According to the agency, 49 fatalities were recorded in Cebu, mostly due to flooding, landslides, and falling debris. One death each was reported in Bohol, Capiz, and Leyte, all caused by toppled trees, while another in Leyte was due to flooding.
In the Negros Island Region, seven people were confirmed dead, including two struck by debris.
“The cause [of death] of five others are still being determined,” the NDRRMC said.
The agency also reported that 13 people remain missing in Cebu, and another 13 in La Castella, Negros Occidental.
Meanwhile, six Philippine Air Force personnel—two pilots and four aircrew members—were killed when their Super Huey helicopter crashed in Agusan del Sur on Tuesday afternoon.
Typhoon Tino, the 20th cyclone to hit the Philippines this year, lashed wide areas of the Visayas, as well as parts of Mindanao and Southern Luzon. PAGASA said the storm is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.
