TYPHOON UWAN EXITS PAR BUT WIND SIGNALS STILL UP IN LUZON

Typhoon Uwan has moved northward outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), but tropical cyclone wind signals remain hoisted over parts of Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said early Tuesday.

As of 4 a.m., Uwan’s center was located 365 km west of Calayan, Cagayan, moving north at 15 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h and gusts of up to 150 km/h.

“Uwan is now outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility and will follow a recurving path turning northward then northeastward for most of the forecast period,” PAGASA said, adding the system may re-enter PAR by Wednesday evening before making landfall over Taiwan, where it is expected to weaken.

Signal No. 2 remains over Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, and parts of Cordillera and Ilocos regions, while Signal No. 1 is up over several areas in Luzon including Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Central Luzon, and northern Quezon.

A gale warning is also in effect across Northern and Central Luzon’s seaboards, with rough to very rough seas reaching up to 3.5 meters, making sea travel risky for all vessels.
