Vice President Sara Duterte marked International Women’s Day on March 8 by calling for stronger support systems for women and marginalized sectors.
In a statement, Duterte said the celebration should go beyond recognizing resilience and instead focus on building programs that provide genuine assistance.
“Panahon na upang maglatag tayo ng mga sistemang tunay na susuporta sa ating lakas,” she said.
“We need real protection for the informal sector, climate-resilient support for our farmers, and genuine access to financing for women entrepreneurs.”
She emphasized that supporting women is not just goodwill but a strategy for inclusive growth.
“Ang pagsuporta sa kababaihan ay hindi lamang pagpapakita ng kabutihang-loob. It is a strategy for inclusive growth,” she added.
The Vice President also urged the public to work toward a future where every Filipina can lead with dignity and enjoy greater opportunities.
International Women’s Day, celebrated annually every March 8, honors women’s achievements and highlights the global push for gender equality. In the Philippines, the entire month of March is observed as National Women’s Month.
