VP SARA EXPECTS NEW IMPEACHMENT, CALLS IT “FUNDRAISING”

Vice President Sara Duterte said Monday she anticipates another impeachment complaint against her, dismissing the move as a “fundraising” tactic by some members of the House of Representatives.

“Alam na natin iyan na mangyayari iyon. As expected as well, magiging katulad lang din ‘yan nung nakaraan na ginagawang fundraising ng mga members of the House of Representatives ‘yung pagpirma nila sa impeachment,” Duterte told reporters during her visit to The Hague.

She claimed the effort was “all about the money,” reiterating her view that impeachment threats are often used as leverage ahead of budget negotiations for 2026.

Duterte was impeached by the House in 2025, but the Supreme Court halted the Senate trial, citing the constitutional ban on multiple impeachment proceedings within a year. The Senate later voted 19-4, with one abstention, to archive the complaint.

Asked about the impeachment complaint filed against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Duterte said:

“Sa ngayon, wala pa (akong reaksyon). Antayin natin ang mga susunod na mga araw kung mayroon akong reaksyon.”

Her remarks underscore the political tension surrounding both her office and the administration as Congress prepares for another round of budget deliberations.
