Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto is seen as a looming obstacle to Vice President Sara Duterte in the 2028 presidential race—if he meets the age requirement—based on a “hypothetical” survey conducted by the group Tangere.
According to the poll held from August 27 to 30 with 1,400 respondents and a margin of error of ±2.57%, VP Duterte led with 36%, closely followed by Sotto with 34%.
Former Vice President and current Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo landed a distant third with 10%, followed by Senator Raffy Tulfo (6%), House Speaker Martin Romualdez (3%), Senate Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros (2%), Senate President Chiz Escudero (1%), and Senator Robinhood Padilla (1%).
Sotto, however, does not yet meet the constitutional age requirement of 40 to run for president. But political observers see this as a strong indication of his growing national presence and potential for higher office.
Sotto also topped the list of potential strong contenders for the Senate in the same 2028 survey conducted by Tangere.
