After years of rumors and speculation, Liza Soberano has finally confirmed that she and longtime partner Enrique Gil have broken up—revealing that the split happened nearly three years ago.
Speaking in her recent YouTube series Can I Come In? Featuring Liza, the actress admitted:
“I’ve been honestly itching to tell people this because I haven’t been very truthful. Quen hasn’t been very truthful. Quen and I broke up. We’ve been broken up for almost three years now.”
According to Liza, Enrique initially asked her to keep their breakup private.
“The reason, originally why we haven’t said anything about it is because Enrique or Quen asked me not to say anything about it first and I think it, I don’t want to speak for him but I think it was coming from a place of not wanting it to be real,” she explained.
Liza admitted she agreed to the silence, not wanting to face reality either.
“This is coming from the people pleaser side of me because I was so afraid that when people found out that we weren’t together anymore, my career would go bad or people wouldn’t love me anymore.”
The actress confessed that she had already felt unhappy in the relationship a year before the breakup but avoided confrontation.
“I decided to just swallow it or sweep everything under the rug. I accepted that there were certain things about him that I wasn’t okay with and that it’s just always going to be like that,” she said.
After nearly a decade together, Liza thought marriage was next.
“We were already at the point, almost 8 years together and I was genuinely expecting us to get married, like, soon but that didn’t happen. When I broke up with him, I would say that it was such a beautiful breakup because it was still full of love.”
Despite parting ways, Liza said she still deeply respects Enrique.
“It was so hard for me to actually break up with him because I love him. I still love him as a person… I think of him as like a childhood best friend. It’s just so beautiful.”
Rumors of their separation first swirled in 2022 when fans noticed their reduced public appearances and absence from each other’s social media posts. At the time, both stars chose to remain silent or deny the speculation.
