The Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament aims to pass a redistricting law by December to enable the autonomous region’s first parliamentary elections next year.
Jet Lim, parliament floor leader and spokesperson, said committees are reviewing and consolidating six districting bill versions.
“The parliament is committed to an inclusive, transparent, and legally compliant districting process and aims to complete and pass the districting law by December 2025, in line with the Bangsamoro Organic Law,” Lim said on Monday, December 1.
He encouraged Bangsamoro residents to join public consultations this month to “build a fair and representative parliamentary districting system.”
The move follows the Supreme Court’s September ruling that declared Bangsamoro Autonomy Act (BAA) 77, which reorganized parliamentary districts to reallocate Sulu seats, unconstitutional. The court clarified that nullifying BAA 77 “does not revive” BAA 58.
Originally scheduled for October 13, BARMM parliamentary elections were postponed. The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has now set the polls for March 30, 2026, with the election period starting January 29, 2026.
