The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) will hold a special manual election in the 2nd District of Antipolo City, Rizal, to fill the vacancy left by the late Representative Romeo Acop.
COMELEC Chairman George Erwin Garcia said on Wednesday, January 14, that the election is scheduled for March 14, a Saturday, and will involve around 300,000 voters.
Acop, 78, a retired police officer who served in Congress for over a decade, passed away on December 20 while recovering from a kidney transplant.
Acop was a member of the National Unity Party and notably first called out the name “Mary Grace Piattos,” linked to Vice President Sara Duterte’s confidential funds, appearing on acknowledgement receipts.
