The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is aiming for a voter turnout of at least 65% in the special election for the 2nd District of Antipolo City on Saturday, with hopes it could reach as high as 70% of the district’s 252,793 registered voters.
COMELEC chairperson George Erwin Garcia said the target is “reasonable and practical,” noting that March 14 has been declared a special non-working day in the district to encourage participation.
“We hope we can reach 65–70%. This is reasonable and practical, and I hope we can reach it,” Garcia said.
He added that cooperation from the local government unit has been crucial in mobilizing voters ahead of the polls.
Six candidates remain in the race for the district’s House seat: Bong Acop, Dandin Infante, Reden Llaga, Maria Trinidad Cafirma, Nathaniel Lobigas, and Irvin Paulo Tapales.
Garcia clarified that reports of a candidate’s disqualification are false, though a case filed against Acop is still pending before the poll body.
The special election was called following the death of former Representative Romeo Acop on December 20, 2025.
