DIZON INSPECTS FLOOD CONTROL PROJECTS IN NAVOTAS AFTER TYPHOON UWAN

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon on Monday led an inspection of key flood control and drainage projects in Navotas City following President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to assess flood-prone areas in Metro Manila after Super Typhoon Uwan.

Dizon was joined by Undersecretary Arthur Bisnar, PCO Undersecretary Honey Rose Mercado, Mayor John Rey Tiangco, and Rep. Toby Tiangco during the visit to the Navotas Coastal Dike, which endured strong storm surges at the height of the typhoon.

As of Monday morning, parts of Navotas remained knee-deep in floodwaters, including areas in front of the city hall.

Mayor Tiangco said the local government is constructing a road dike to act as a breakwater and mitigate flooding in low-lying communities.

The DPWH said its field teams remain on standby for clearing and rehabilitation operations in areas affected by the storm.

Rep. Tiangco earlier noted that Navotas’ below-sea-level location makes it highly vulnerable to recurrent flooding and storm surges.
