DPWH-NCR REPORTS 99.5% DRAINAGE DECLOGGING UNDER FLOOD CONTROL PROGRAM

The Department of Public Works and Highways–National Capital Region (DPWH-NCR) reported significant progress in its flood mitigation efforts, announcing that more than 4,500 cubic meters of drainage have been declogged across Metro Manila.

In a social media update, the agency said that as of the third week of March, 99.5% or approximately 4,584.47 cubic meters of drainage in 48 locations had already been cleared. It added that 15.95% or more than 28,008.28 cubic meters of waterways in 31 areas had undergone desilting operations.

The DPWH outlined ongoing measures under the program, including cleaning esteros, dredging and hauling spoils, declogging and clearing drainage inlets and laterals, manual clearing of drainage lines, and desilting of waterways.

These efforts are part of the weekly Oplan Kontra Baha, implemented in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to ensure proper water flow along major roads in Metro Manila.

The agency emphasized that the initiative is aimed at improving flood control systems and making communities in the National Capital Region safer and more resilient against flooding.
