Former Makati City Mayor Abby Binay has publicly addressed the allegations made by her sister, current Mayor and former Senator Nancy Binay, regarding the controversial ₱8.96-billion settlement linked to the stalled Makati City Subway Project.
Mayor Nancy previously criticized the deal as a “midnight contract” with Philippine InfraDev Holdings Inc., warning that it could lead to bankruptcy for the city.
The project was shelved after Taguig City gained jurisdiction over the EMBO barangays—areas that were initially included in the subway route.
In a press conference on Friday—her first public appearance since her loss in the 2025 senatorial race—Abby denied the accusations, insisting that the city’s finances remain intact and secure.
“It is not true that the city will go bankrupt because of the settlement,” she said.
Abby added that she left Makati with a strong financial standing, including assets valued at ₱243 billion.
“This is cash. The city has assets worth over ₱243 billion. They cannot deny this because it is based on Makati’s financial records,” she emphasized.
“There is no basis to say that Makati will run out of funds for programs, settlements, and operations.”
When asked whether the sibling dispute might escalate further as the 2028 elections draw closer, Abby responded, “Magkikita kami after three years kasi doon natin malalaman after three years kung ano ang magiging desisyon. Maliit naman ang Makati. Baka magkikita kami bukas. So parating pa lang tayo sa exciting part.”
