HALF OF MARCOS-LED COALITION FALLS SHORT IN 2025 MIDTERMS

MANILA — What happened to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas?
That is the question now being asked by political observers and the public alike, following the release of partial and unofficial results of the 2025 midterm elections.
Despite high expectations of a “landslide victory” for the administration-backed coalition, only five out of the ten Alyansa candidates made it to the winning Senate circle.
Senatorial candidates who secured seats under the Alyansa slate include Erwin Tulfo, Ping Lacson, Tito Sotto, Pia Cayetano, and Lito Lapid.
According to Lacson, the administration’s political machinery failed to deliver this election cycle—an outcome he believes opened the door for unexpected victories by opposition figures like former Senators Bam Aquino and Kiko Pangilinan, as well as SAGIP Party-list Representative Rodante Marcoleta.
The returning senator also noted that the endorsement of President Marcos may have even been a “kiss of death” for some of his allies.
Among the high-profile losses were incumbent Senators Bong Revilla and Francis Tolentino, former Senator Manny Pacquiao, Makati Mayor Abby Binay, and former DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos.
Despite the mixed results, Malacañang released a statement expressing President Marcos Jr.’s satisfaction with the election outcome, saying it reflects the continued strength of Philippine democracy.
