The House of Representatives has approved a measure resetting the schedule of the first parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Lanao del Sur 1st District Representative Zia Alonto Adiong, chair of the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms, announced that the first regular BARMM elections are now set for September 14, 2026.
“This is good news. It is also in preparation for the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, which is two years from now,” Adiong said.
Under the measure, succeeding BARMM parliamentary elections will take place on the second Monday of September 2026. Those elected will serve from October 30, 2026, until noon of June 30, 2031.
After this period, BARMM elections will be synchronized with the May 2031 national and local polls, ensuring alignment with the country’s broader electoral calendar.
