MEASLES CASES IN QUEZON CITY MOSTLY AFFECT YOUNG CHILDREN — HEALTH OFFICIALS

Health authorities have reported that children aged 10 years old and below make up the majority of measles cases recorded in the city during the first quarter of 2026.

According to the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division (QCESD), 106 out of 136 confirmed measles cases from January 1 to April 8 involved children aged 10 and under—representing about 78 percent of the total.

District 2 recorded the highest number of cases with 57, followed by District 4 with 29, District 6 with 25, and District 3 with 11. Districts 1 and 5 each reported seven cases.

Officials also confirmed one measles-related death: a four-month-old infant who passed away on March 25 despite immediate medical care and emergency intervention.

In response, the QCESD said surveillance efforts, outbreak response immunization activities, health education campaigns, and prevention programs are ongoing under the Quezon City local government.

Authorities urged parents to seek medical consultation if children show symptoms such as fever and skin rashes, stressing that early detection and prompt treatment are crucial to preventing serious complications.
