Former Vice President and now Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo has proudly announced the approval of an AI City Planner for the city she leads.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, November 20, Robredo shared that the approved grant for the project amounts to ₱6.7 million.

“Our application for a ₱6.7 M grant for an AI City Planner has been approved!! This will help us do a more effective, people-centric transport and land use planning, monitoring, and evaluation that’s AI-empowered,” Robredo said. “It will be the first in the country.”

She added that the project is a step toward achieving her vision for Naga City.

“This brings us closer to our goal of an Open, Digital and Participatory Naga by 2028,” Robredo said.

Robredo also expressed gratitude after her proposal was recognized for bringing innovation to the city.

“Thank you, Dr Syrus Gomari, for helping us with the grant proposal. Thank you, DepDev, for recognizing this innovative project,” she concluded.

According to the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev), Robredo’s application was found to offer new opportunities and innovative solutions for the city based on their assessment.

“We have concluded that your proposal offers innovative solutions with the potential to unlock new opportunities and advance the objectives of the National Innovation Agenda and Strategy Document 2023-2032. This decision follows a competitive evaluation process under the DEPDev Memorandum Circular No. 1 s. 2025,” they said.

On the broader use of artificial intelligence (AI), it is recalled that President Bongbong Marcos assured that the administration would employ AI as a modern reform for a more efficient flood control system nationwide.
