PACQUIAO NOW NO. 1 WBC WELTERWEIGHT CONTENDER AFTER COMEBACK FIGHT

After a remarkable comeback performance, former Senator Manny Pacquiao has climbed to the No. 1 spot in the latest World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight rankings.

The Filipino boxing legend was previously ranked No. 5 when he came out of retirement at 46 to challenge WBC champion Mario Barrios last July 20.

While Pacquiao surged to the top of the WBC ladder, many believe he should already be wearing the champion’s belt. Barrios narrowly retained his title after their bout ended in a controversial majority draw — a result that didn’t sit well with most fans, analysts, and fellow fighters.

Just weeks after going toe-to-toe with Barrios, Pacquiao is already setting his sights on another fight this December. Potential opponents include WBA welterweight champion Rolly Romero, knockout artist Gervonta Davis, or even a rematch with Barrios.

Pacquiao, the only eight-division world champion in boxing history, will turn 47 on December 17. He recently returned to the Philippines after a vacation in Positano, Italy, with his wife Jinkee.
