Philip Acop, son of the late former Representative Romeo Acop, officially took his oath of office as Antipolo City’s 2nd District representative on Monday.
Acop was sworn in by House Speaker Faustino Dy III during the session, two days after winning the special election to fill the seat left vacant by his father’s passing.
He was proclaimed by the Commission on Elections on Sunday after receiving 60,051 of 82,796 votes in the special polls conducted the previous day.
The elder Acop passed away on December 21, 2025, at the age of 78. His death was confirmed by National Unity Party chairperson and Antipolo City 1st District Representative Ronaldo Puno, who paid tribute to his long-time colleague.
“Sadly, he has really passed on. Our hearts are broken. He was a friend for more than 25 years and a devoted, courageous, HONEST public servant,” Puno said.
“The Congress and our country are the lesser for his loss,” he added.
