Social media personality Sassa Gurl has spoken up about the reason behind her profanity-laced remark against the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), following the “X” rating initially given to their film Dreamboi.
In the latest episode of vlogger and talent manager Ogie Diaz’s show posted on Saturday, December 6, Sassa detailed the events surrounding the creation of Dreamboi, a film made by their circle of friends, and the controversy that followed after it was twice given an X rating by the MTRCB.
She said, “[M]ayro’n kaming ginawang pelikula. Kasama ako do’n, ‘yong ‘Dreamboi’ nga po. […] It’s a community film, which means tropa-tropa ‘to. Maraming magtotropa na magkakasama na gumawa ng pelikula.”
According to her, they were shocked to discover the rating: “Tapos, na-X rated kami dalawang beses. […] ‘O, my God! Anong nangyari? Ba’t na-X rated ng dalawang beses? […] Samantalang wala namang ka-X-rated-X-rated sa pelikula,” she added.
Sassa emphasized that her cursing was not intended as a personal attack but an expression of frustration over the situation, especially since her friends worked hard on the project.
“‘Yong mura na ‘yon, sign of frustration lang naman siya. […] Siyempre kasi, tayo, ‘pag may nangyayari sa atin ‘di ba na ginagawa ng gobyerno, medyo napapamura tayo,” she said.
She clarified further that her criticism was directed at the institution itself: “Ang atake ko d’on, minura ko ‘yong MTRCB itself. Na ‘yong mga polisiya nila is makaluma na, na hindi na akma sa panahon ngayon.”
Sassa also insisted there was nothing wrong with the experiences of homosexual individuals like her, seemingly in response to criticisms raised regarding the film’s content.
Earlier, Ogie Diaz publicly called out Sassa for her harsh remarks against the agency, which is currently chaired by Lala Sotto.
Meanwhile, after its third appeal, the MTRCB eventually reversed its initial rating for Dreamboi, directed by Rodina Singh.
