The Supreme Court has stopped the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) from enforcing the disqualification of Tarlac City Mayor Susan Yap-Sulit by issuing a status quo ante order.
Under the Court’s directive, the situation prior to the COMELEC En Banc ruling will remain in effect while the case is still under review. The respondents were also ordered to submit their comments within ten days upon receipt of the notice.
Yap-Sulit earlier filed a petition for certiorari seeking a temporary restraining order or status quo ante order against the COMELEC En Banc resolution issued in October that disqualified her from office.
Before the Supreme Court’s intervention, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) had directed its Central Luzon regional office to enforce the COMELEC ruling after confirming a vacancy in the mayoral post.
