MANILA – Though the 2028 elections are still years away, two familiar names are already emerging as possible rivals for the presidency—both of whom have held the title “Vice President” of the Philippines.
According to a nationwide survey conducted by research firm Tangere on May 20–21 with 1,800 respondents, Vice President Sara Duterte and former Vice President and incoming Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo are seen as the top early contenders for the 2028 presidential race.
Duterte led the presidential preference survey with 29%, while Robredo followed with 21%.
Re-elected Senator Bong Go came in third with 15%, followed by Senator Raffy Tulfo (11%), House Speaker Martin Romualdez (6%), Senate President Chiz Escudero (3%), and Senator Robin Padilla (3%).
Meanwhile, Senator Bong Go emerged as the early favorite for vice president in the same poll, garnering 36% support.
However, Senator-elect Bam Aquino is shaping up to be a formidable challenger, earning 26% of preference votes despite not yet assuming his Senate seat for the new term.
Rounding out the list of preferred vice-presidential candidates were Senator Raffy Tulfo (11%), Senator Risa Hontiveros (6%), Senate President Chiz Escudero (4%), Senator-elect Erwin Tulfo (4%), and Senator Robin Padilla (3%).
With prominent names on both sides of the political spectrum gaining momentum, the stage is already being set for what could be a high-stakes and closely contested 2028 national election.
