Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto remains noncommittal about his political plans for 2028, stating that he is more focused on leadership development and his responsibilities as mayor rather than eyeing a new post once his term ends.
Fresh off a landslide reelection victory against Sara Discaya of St. Gerrard Construction Company, Sotto appeared on ANC’s Headstart with Karen Davila, where he was asked about his future political plans.
“Well definitely, i don’t have any relatives in politics or interested in politics here in the City of Pasig. What’s more important is that we develop new leaders especially younger leaders so that’s part of what i’m going to focus on in the next 3 years,” the 35-year-old mayor said.
Sotto also urged the public not to get too caught up with speculation about the 2028 elections.
“I hope that people will look beyond the position or possible positions in the future and number 1, focus on what we’re doing now, hindi sya tungkol sa posisyon eh,” he emphasized.
When asked directly whether he is considering a run for Congress in Pasig’s lone district or a Senate seat in 2028, Sotto dismissed the idea, saying those roles might not suit him.
“Honestly, I don’t think I’d make a good Congressman or Senator either. I’m just being honest with myself,” he said, reaffirming his preference for executive functions in government.
As his third and final term begins, Sotto remains focused on governance and institutional reforms in Pasig, leaving his national ambitions—if any—open to speculation.
