ADO TAKES ON CHIBI MARUKO-CHAN THEME SONG IN NEW OPENING

In a highly anticipated update for fans of the long-running anime Chibi Maruko-chan, Japanese singer Ado has been announced as the new performer of the beloved theme song “Odoru Pompokorin” starting from the December 28, 2025 broadcast of the series. This marks the first change in the song’s opening artist in 6 years and 8 months, timed with the anime’s 35th anniversary celebration.

“Odoru Pompokorin,” originally performed by B.B. Queens in 1990, became a cultural hit tied to Chibi Maruko-chan’s many years on air. Over the decades, it has been covered by numerous artists including ManaKana & Shigeru Izumiya, Kaela Kimura, E-girls, Golden Bomber, and most recently Momoiro Clover Z before Ado’s newly revealed rendition.

According to the anime’s official announcement, Ado’s version of the iconic song will debut with new opening visuals featuring an anime-style depiction of Ado alongside Maruko and familiar characters, adding a fresh twist to the classic sequence. Her arrangement preserves the playful energy of the original, with a modern adaptation by arranger Hyadain that is expected to appeal to both longtime fans and new viewers.

Ado, who has become one of Japan’s most prominent contemporary vocalists, shared her enthusiasm for the opportunity, expressing heartfelt appreciation for being able to sing the theme of a series she grew up watching. The new track is slated to be released digitally on December 29, 2025 across major streaming platforms.

The opening sequence and theme change have already generated excitement online, with viewers praising the updated visuals and Ado’s distinctive performance of a song that many consider a staple of anime culture.
