PASIG CITY, Philippines — A landmark moment for the country’s independent publishing community is set this April as the Philippine Doujin Expo debuts in Metro Manila.
Carrying the theme “A New Story Starts Here,” the event will take place on April 11, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Bayanihan Center, gathering more than 80 comics creators, authors, illustrators, and creative collectives in what organizers describe as a historic celebration of doujin culture in the Philippines.
A first dedicated to doujin culture
The term doujin refers to creators who self publish their own works, while doujinshi typically describes independently produced comics, novels, and print materials. In Japan, massive events such as Comiket have long provided platforms for independent artists to connect directly with readers.
The Philippine Doujin Expo positions itself as the first local event focused exclusively on doujin culture and self published print media, distinguishing it from broader pop culture conventions traditionally staged in the country.
More than 80 creators featured
Organizers confirmed that over 80 participating creators and collectives will showcase their work. Attendees can expect a wide range of offerings, including original comics, manga inspired stories, self published novels, short fiction, zines, small press releases, fan created derivative works, and art books.
Beyond product sales, the expo is designed as a networking and discovery space where readers can engage directly with artists, learn about independent projects, and support emerging voices in Philippine storytelling.
A platform for independent voices
The launch of the Philippine Doujin Expo reflects the steady growth of grassroots creative communities nationwide. Independent komiks, zines, and small press publications have gained momentum in recent years, fueled by social media promotion and community driven events.
Organizers say the goal is to provide a dedicated venue that celebrates creative independence while fostering collaboration within the local publishing ecosystem. Early ticket sales are ongoing through the official event page, with fans encouraged to secure passes ahead of the April gathering.
As its theme declares, April 11 represents more than a convention date. It signals the beginning of a new chapter for Philippine doujin culture, shaped and shared by creators and readers alike.
