The fate of TV5’s highly anticipated alternative historical-drama The Kingdom: Magkabilang Mundo is now in limbo following reports that the project has been “shelved” due to financial constraints.
Industry insiders revealed that the teleserye would require an estimated ₱200 million budget to realize its large-scale production — a figure that has raised concerns over its feasibility.
A story conference was held on January 8 at APT Studios, once home to the iconic noontime show Eat… Bulaga!.
The event introduced a powerhouse cast led by Piolo Pascual, Sue Ramirez, Cristine Reyes, Derek Ramsay, and Maja Salvador.
The series was set to be helmed by acclaimed director Mike Tuviera, who won Best Director at the Metro Manila Film Festival 2024.
It was envisioned as a television adaptation of the 2024 MMFF fantasy entry The Kingdom, which starred Pascual alongside eight-time Box-Office King Vic Sotto.
Produced by MQuest Ventures and APT Entertainment, the drama was positioned as one of TV5’s flagship primetime offerings for 2026. However, despite its strong early momentum and star-studded lineup, uncertainty now clouds its future.
As of press time, TV5 has yet to issue an official statement confirming whether the fantasy drama will proceed or remain indefinitely on hold.
For now, audiences and industry observers are left waiting for clarity on what could have been one of the network’s most ambitious television undertakings.
