MANIBELA SETS THREE-DAY NATIONWIDE TRANSPORT STRIKE AMID FUEL CRISIS

Transport group Manibela announced on Monday that it will stage a three-day nationwide strike from April 15 to 17 to protest what it described as the government’s slow response to the worsening crisis in the transport sector.

According to Manibela Chairman Mar Valbuena, the strike will involve drivers of jeepneys, transportation network vehicle services (TNVS), taxis, and motorcycle taxis.

The group said the planned mass action aims to highlight the growing struggles of transport workers as fuel prices continue to surge, largely driven by escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Manibela warned that the rising cost of fuel has significantly reduced drivers’ earnings, making it increasingly difficult for many to sustain daily operations and support their families.

The group has called on the government to implement urgent measures to cushion the impact of the oil price hikes, including fuel subsidies and policy interventions to stabilize transport costs.

The three-day strike is expected to disrupt public transportation nationwide, potentially affecting thousands of commuters, as transport groups intensify calls for immediate government action.
