CAYETANO URGES LAWYERS TO PURSUE PURPOSE AND RIGHTEOUSNESS OVER PRESTIGE

Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano on April 15 reminded lawyers to look beyond clients, cases, and prestige, urging them to focus instead on deeper purpose and righteousness in their profession.

Speaking at the blessing and dedication of a new law office, Cayetano, himself a lawyer, emphasized that success and influence should not be the ultimate measure of legal practice.

“The Lord Jesus said, ‘Seek first My Kingdom and righteousness, and everything shall be added unto you,’” he quoted.

Cayetano advised lawyers not to chase big cases or high-profile clients, but to align their work with what is right and just.

“Don’t seek VIPs (very important persons). Seek very important believers – VIBs, not VIPs. Don’t seek those big cases, those big clients, et cetera. Just seek God’s righteousness and his kingdom,” he said.

He added that professional growth will naturally follow when the direction of one’s work is grounded in integrity and purpose.

Cayetano also underscored that law and politics alone cannot solve the country’s problems, pointing to deeper roots that require moral and spiritual grounding.
