PRIME VIDEO ANNOUNCES SLATE OF UPCOMING FILIPINO FILMS

Prime Video is set to expand its local library with a diverse lineup of five upcoming Filipino films, the streaming giant announced Tuesday.

The move signals a continued commitment to “expand Philippines’ movies to the world,” bringing a mix of historical epics, supernatural horror, and contemporary dramas to a global audience.

While official premiere dates remain under wraps, the slate promises a variety of genres featuring some of the country’s biggest stars.

A Mix of Redemption and Terror
Leading the announcement is “Samahan ng Mga Makasalanan,” starring David Licauco as Sam, a young deacon assigned to a town notorious for its “sinners.” In a quest for spiritual rehabilitation, Sam gathers the residents together to help them redeem themselves.

For fans of the macabre, “Gabi ng Lagim: The Movie” offers a triptych of terror. The film is composed of three standalone yet linked stories—“Pocong,” “Berbalang,” and “Sanib”—that explore themes of fear ranging from ancient folklore to internal personal demons.

Historical Epics and Long-Awaited Sequels
The lineup also includes the ambitious historical drama “Quezon,” chronicling the life of Manuel L. Quezon, from lawyer and soldier to President of the Philippines. The narrative focuses on the country’s struggle for independence from the United States and Quezon’s pivotal leadership during the Commonwealth era.

Returning to a fan-favorite universe, “Bar Boys: After School” picks up a decade after the original film. The sequel reunites Carlo Aquino, Rocco Nacino, Enzo Pineda, and Kean Cipriano as they navigate the complexities of veteran legal careers, new organizations, and evolving personal relationships.

Contemporary Queer Narratives
Rounding out the slate is “Open Endings,” a sapphic drama that debuted at the 2025 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival. Starring Klea Pineda, Janella Salvador, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, and Leanne Mamonong, the story centers on four queer women who have successfully transitioned from being ex-partners to best friends. The film explores the nuances of modern love, intimacy, and the concept of “chosen family.”
