In a move that signals the “end of an era” for Philippine radio, seasoned broadcaster and TV personality Laila Chikadora (Jessica R. Asis) has announced her departure from the airwaves.
After more than 25 years of consistent presence in the lives of Filipino listeners, the beloved host is officially stepping away from the microphone.
Chikadora, known for her quick wit and unmistakable voice, shared the heartfelt news through her social media channels on April 27.
Reflecting on a journey that began in 2001, she expressed deep gratitude for the connection she built with her audience across various major stations, most recently as the host of “Shout Out” on 105.9 True FM.
In her emotional statement, she highlighted the intimate nature of the medium that defined her professional life:
“For over 25 years, I’ve had the privilege of being a guest in your homes, your cars, and your workplaces. From Monday to Friday, we’ve shared the rhythm of daily life.”
Throughout her career, which spanned stints at Magic 89.9, DZBB, Love Radio, and MOR 101.9, Chikadora became a staple of the daily Filipino routine. She noted that while radio is often perceived as a solitary or one-way medium, her experience was anything but lonely.
“I was the silent witness to your stories through the songs I played—your heartbreaks, your triumphs, and your quiet moments. A lot of you grew old with me. We’ve spent years together, 5 days a week through every season of life.”
She further emphasized the bond with her “companions” on the other side of the signal:
“They say radio is a one-way street, but I never felt alone because of you. You’ve been the heartbeat behind every broadcast.”
As she enters her final week on air, Chikadora has invited her loyal “Chikadoras” to join her for a final countdown.
The veteran host, who also serves as an entertainment correspondent for News5 and a segment host on Gud Morning Kapatid, concluded her announcement with her signature energy:
“Samahan niyo ako sa huling limang araw ko sa radyo. Let’s look back, share a few laughs, and maybe shed a tear or two. This is our final countdown. Sa huling pagkakataon… mag-ingay tayo!”
While she steps away from the radio booth, her legacy remains as one of the most recognizable voices that bridged the gap between traditional FM radio and modern multi-platform broadcasting.
