President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has authorized a series of special nonworking days across various municipalities and cities from July 30 to August 5, paving the way for regional anniversary milestones, cultural festivities, and historical commemorations.
The official proclamations, signed by Acting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto under the authority of the Chief Executive, were published in the Official Gazette.
“It is but fitting and proper that the people be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration,” the directives stated.
Under Proclamation No. 1353, the town of Sudipen in La Union will observe a special nonworking day on July 30 to celebrate its founding anniversary.
In Davao del Norte, Proclamation No. 1354 designated August 1 as a nonworking holiday in Asuncion for its 27th Sinawug Festival and Araw ng Asuncion. On the same day, Proclamation No. 1355 grants residents of Kapalong, also located in Davao del Norte, a holiday to celebrate the municipality’s 78th foundation year.
Further south, Tacurong City in Sultan Kudarat will mark its 75th founding anniversary on August 3 through Proclamation No. 1356.
Meanwhile, Proclamation No. 1357 set August 5 as a special nonworking day in Calbayog City, Samar, honoring the birth anniversary of former Senate President Jose Avelino.
Born in Calbayog on August 5, 1890, Avelino served as the nation’s first Senate president following World War II before challenging his former political ally, Elpidio Quirino, in the 1949 presidential election.
