The country is expected to remain free of tropical cyclones on Monday, July 27, as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. delivers his State of the Nation Address (SONA), though Metro Manila and other regions may experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
According to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Obet Badrina, the main weather drivers across the country during the event will be localized thunderstorms and the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat.
The habagat will bring overcast skies with scattered rainfall to Zambales, Bataan, and the Ilocos Region. Meanwhile, Metro Manila—where the SONA will take place—and the remainder of the country can anticipate mostly cloudy skies with localized afternoon or evening rain showers and thunderstorms.
Light to moderate winds blowing from the southwest to south will affect Luzon, while the Visayas and Mindanao will see light to moderate winds moving from the southeast to south.
Badrina noted that no low-pressure areas or tropical cyclones are currently being monitored within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Generally fair weather is expected across most of the nation from Tuesday through Thursday, July 28 to 30, though brief afternoon or evening rain showers and thunderstorms remain possible.
