Voters across five coastal barangays in Parañaque City overwhelmingly ratified a local measure on Saturday to adjust their territorial limits near the reclaimed areas of Manila Bay.
Official data from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) revealed that 11,597 residents voted in favor of City Ordinance No. 2023-19, which updates the boundary lines for Barangays Baclaran, Tambo, Don Galo, La Huerta, and San Dionisio. Only 2,254 voters opposed the measure.
The Plebiscite Board of Canvassers officially declared the ordinance approved following the complete canvass of 151 returns. Out of 79,251 registered voters across the affected communities, 13,873 participated in the vote.
COMELEC Spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco highlighted the efficiency of the exercise, noting that the July 25 poll set a record for speed.
“The fastest plebiscite canvassing on record, with the Certificate of Canvass and Proclamation having been issued and promulgated within 6 hours from the close of polls,” Laudiangco said in a statement.
