The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Davao Region (DSWD-11) has disbursed P228.25 million in financial and material assistance to approximately 47,000 families—representing over 156,000 individuals—impacted by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake on June 8.
According to data provided to the Philippine News Agency, the powerful tremor damaged 16,017 houses across the region, completely destroying 5,277 homes and leaving 10,740 partially damaged.
Davao Occidental bore the brunt of the disaster, reporting 36,771 affected families (116,625 individuals). Among them, 3,891 families remain in evacuation centers, while 3,079 are taking shelter elsewhere.
Jose Abad Santos was the hardest-hit municipality in the province, accounting for 22,576 affected families (72,552 persons) and 6,324 displaced households. The town, which suffered damage to 5,674 homes, received P137.67 million of the total relief funds.
Other heavily affected towns in Davao Occidental also received substantial aid allocation:
- Sarangani: 7,101 affected families received P71.82 million in aid.
- Malita: 4,064 affected families received P9.79 million in aid.
- Sta. Maria: 1,838 affected families received P2.99 million in aid.
Compounding the region’s crisis, the southwest monsoon (habagat) affected an additional 6,115 families (21,912 individuals). DSWD-11 reported that monsoon rains damaged 651 homes, destroying 504 of them. Currently, 840 families are taking shelter in evacuation sites, while 54 families are staying outside centers.
Tagum City logged 3,183 monsoon-affected families, while Kiblawan and Sulop in Davao del Sur reported 73 and 286 affected families, respectively. In Jose Abad Santos, 1,539 families were hit by the habagat, receiving over P4 million in relief.
To support those hit by the monsoon, DSWD-11 has extended P6.13 million in assistance, distributing family food packs, tents, hygiene kits, and emergency relief goods.
