Pope Leo XIV will embark on his inaugural papal trip to Latin America this November, returning to a region central to his pastoral life, the Vatican announced Wednesday.
The 12-day journey, scheduled from November 6 to 17, spans three nations. The itinerary begins in Uruguay from November 6 to 8 with stops in Montevideo, Paysandú, and Florida.
The pontiff will then visit Argentina from November 8 to 11—making stops in Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and Luján—before concluding his tour in Peru from November 11 to 17 with visits to Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco, and Pucallpa.
The leg in Peru carries personal significance for the American-born pontiff, who holds Peruvian citizenship and spent decades there as a missionary. A return to Chiclayo, where he served as bishop from 2015 to 2023 prior to his election to the papacy, is anticipated to be a central highlight of the voyage.
Additionally, the stop in Argentina marks a historic return to the homeland of his predecessor, the late Pope Francis, who never visited his native country during his 12-year papacy.
The Vatican noted that specific event schedules will be released later. This Latin American tour follows the pope’s planned September 25-28 visit to France, signaling an active early schedule for his pontificate.
