The Quezon City government has introduced a free advisory service via QC Helpline 122 to guide homeowners, condominium residents, and local business owners in installing rooftop solar power systems.
Through this initiative, residents can consult licensed electrical engineers from the City Engineering Department prior to purchasing solar installations. Callers can receive advice on matching panel capacity to their power usage, technical and safety standards, verifying Department of Energy (DOE)-accredited vendors, and navigating permit applications through the Department of the Building Official.
Mayor Joy Belmonte emphasized that the service aims to drive clean energy adoption while protecting consumers from illegitimate vendors, stating:
“Quezon City has enormous potential to harness solar energy, but many QCitizens and business owners are unsure where to start.”
“Through Helpline 122, our licensed electrical engineers are ready to guide them through the process, answer their technical questions, and help them avoid fraudulent or unlicensed installers.”
City officials noted that expanding rooftop solar adoption lowers power bills, alleviates pressure on the main electrical grid, and advances local sustainability goals.
Demonstrating this approach, the city government has equipped seven municipal hall buildings, three city-run hospitals, and 25 public schools with solar power, generating over ₱8 million in utility savings between January and June 2026.
According to data from the city’s Solar Penetration and Potential Market Demand in Buildings Dashboard, Quezon City recorded a total electricity consumption of 5,787 gigawatt-hours in 2025. City assessments indicate that fully utilizing viable local rooftops for solar equipment could yield up to 16,098.28 gigawatt-hours of power generation.
Furthermore, research by Thinking Machines Lab—commissioned by C40 Cities—projects that widespread adoption of rooftop solar systems across the municipality could unlock up to ₱40.651 billion in aggregate energy savings by 2035.
Local authorities encourage interested residents and commercial operators to dial 122 prior to initiating installations to verify regulatory compliance and secure expert technical evaluation.
