Speculation has surfaced regarding whether veteran journalist Ben Tulfo is targeting the Quezon City mayoralty following his unsuccessful Senate campaign in the 2025 midterm elections.
Reports circulating on the social media page “Juan Manila” suggest that several prominent business groups and influential figures are attempting to persuade Tulfo to enter the city’s upcoming mayoral race.
Tulfo has not yet publicly addressed or commented on the rumors.
Should he decide to run, Tulfo would face a potential lineup of formidable contenders being floated for the city’s top post. These include Quezon City Vice Mayor Gian Sotto, son of Senate President Pro Tempore Vicente “Tito” Sotto III; former Quezon City 6th District Representative Kit Belmonte, cousin of incumbent Mayor Joy Belmonte; and former Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista.
Ben Tulfo is the brother of Senators Raffy and Erwin Tulfo, and the uncle of incumbent Quezon City 2nd District Representative Ralph Tulfo.
Meanwhile, Mayor Joy Belmonte is completing her final term in office amid widespread rumors of a prospective 2028 Senate run.
Tulfo missed a seat in the 12-member Senate winning circle during the 2025 midterm polls, finishing in 13th place and trailing Senator Imee Marcos by over one million votes.
